I am going to replace my 340 water pump and I am looking at this HP unit from NAPA.

http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Catalo...026P_0394929358

Has anyone used this one and had any good luck with it?

Thanks

..just replaced my squeaky 340 pump with this one.
..the gasket supplied was not a good fit but i thought it was close enough to seal.
..changed pump and it leaked bad so replaced with the correct gasket.
..i would have used a standard 6 vane pump but nobody had one in stock.
..working fine after a few test miles!

Since this is an 8, what is the difference between the 6 and the 8 vein?
I was planning on buying the Mr. Gasket brand gasket with it.

EDIT:
I found the 8 vein Severe Duty unit:
http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Water-Pump-Remfd/_/R-WP_58457H_0131329320
I contacted NAPA and they can not purchase this unit. (Why is it on their web sight?)

Thanks

I've never had an issue with any cheap parts house rebuilt WP. I'd get an 8 blader if you can as it flows more & weld an anticav plate on it (6 or 8 vane) & you can also press the vanes closer till they are ~.030" from the pump housing for a more efficient pump then weld the vanes at the center shaft so the vanes will stay put. Support the front shaft at the cross when pressing the vanes in your shop press. Not everybody agrees but imnho the faster the water speed the better as long as pump speed ain't over ~5800 RPM (with cav plate) when picking pulley sizes which means a lower RPM eng can use a smaller WP pulley. EDIT set the gasket on the t cover then flip it over & it'll fit either way but 1 way it covers more flat area, it's subtle but you'll see

6 vane is a/c pump, 8 vane is non-a/c.

a/c pulley is smaller so it runs it faster.

I bought the NAPA HP unit and it is #43026P and it is a new pump assembly, not a rebuilt unit.
You can see in the picture the new one is a 8 vein and my old one is a 6. NAPA said that the 8 vein is the AC unit.

Thanks

they are mistaken there but the 8 blader is better. You might consider welding on an anticav plate. I just cut a round disc out of a clothes dryer side panel & had my welder weld it on

Could you expand on that? Do you weld the plates to the vanes? No balance issues?

I can't afford this. mark

Milodon has pumps made for them, but they weld an anti cavitation plate. AND they check and adjust the depth of the impeller. They said they find impellers at the wrong depth, that's why they check and adjust them.

""Unlike Most Standard Pumps, Performance Pumps Are Less Prone To Cavitations For Longer Service Life.""

This is from the NAPA websight for this new pump. Could they have done something to the pump to fight the cavitation issues?

Thanks

Like this? Don't see anything about the plate.

I run that Milodon pump and it has a plate. Maybe Milodon's website mentions the plate.

Yes just cut a round plate ~1/2" larger in diameter than the vanes. Drill a 3/4" hole in the center & (3) 1/4" holes for a 6 vane on every other vane & 4 holes for an 8 vane on every other vane about halfway between the center & the perimeter, just locate em on the fattest part of the vane & have your welder MIG em. No issue with the balance as there's not enough weight there & you center the disc on the vanes & have the welds spaced every other one. The ideal vane rearward to pump clearance is .030" & vane to timing cover flat including the gasket is .040" On a SB the round plate gets welded to the vanes & on a BB you have to cut it in half & set the halves between the vanes & the pump then weld em. The anticav plate makes a world of difference.
