I will be looking for a 727 for my street car soon. What years should I be looking at? What cars and trucks would have the Torqueflight I want? I've heard to look for them in big c bodies, because they will have 4 pinion planetary and a front drum with 4 friction discs.

My engine will be making up to 600 ft/lbs of torque.

Big block and motorhome transmissions will have the more heavy duty parts installed like you are wanting.

4-pinion planetaries are highly overrated, it isn't the pinion count that's the weak point it's the splines in the aluminum carrier.

Coming from a C-body is no guarantee, a 383-2 C-body won't have heavy duty parts.

I want to make a fun project out of it. I ordered the 'Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook' and I have about 500 to spend on the upgrades and rebuild. I've read some other posts of yours on torqueflights, do you rebuild them? I have access to a cheap 1975 motorhome 440/727, and I think Ill start with that one if its in good shape, or I could take the 727 out of my 72 newport 400-2bl

Some of the MH BB 727s have a short tailshafts and the tranny mount locates differently.. Thay also have little brake drums mounted on the rear. They dont have slip yokes either..

I am truckless..

But a motorhome transmission will require a 2nd parts trans , it is not a bolt in to a passenger car.

As stated, the MH trans will probably have the unusable tail but with parts from both you should be able to build a nice trans.

what about a 2wd truck 727? Is there any differences between that and a passenger car 727?
