I was reading on here about quench and if I read all the archives I would most likely find my answer but I'm gonna ask any how. Zero deck 511 stroker w/ 75 cc Indy EZ flat top piston made my compression ratio closer to 11 to 1 so Hughes will swap the Icon flat top piston to one with a 20 +/- cc dish to get a pump gas 10.3 to 1 compression ratio. Now the question, will this kill any quench effect I may have had with flat tops and a .039 head gasket?

The general feel that I have discovered is that quench is most effective in the .035 to .045 range. Closer than .035 can be a bit scary as RPMs climb if your valvesprings are weak, allowing the valves to stay open longer.(Risking collision with the piston!)
This is what I have read here. I am still learning all of this stuff...

It depends on what type of dish you get. If the dish matches your heads chamber, then no, it will not effect quench. If the dish is a perfect circle in the piston top, then yes it will have reduced quench. Ive seen both types of dished pistons. Get the correct type if you want to keep quench.

I personally wouldn't be afraid of 11:1 on pump premium.

You just need a piston like I run. This is from 440Source but many companies make this piston as its the D-dished piston. I also use the 75cc EZ heads and I still have good quench as the flat part of the piston gets close to the closed chamber on the head as I went for zero deck with a .039 head gasket for quench and the dish dropped my comp to 10.6. And I run great on 92 pump with 37 total timing and no ping at all. Ron

I agree, but something does not seem right in the OP's numbers. 511 cuin., 75 cc head, flat top "zero deck" piston should be on the sunny side of 12:1 w/ 6 cc valve pockets.

A 20 cc dish should change the CR more than 0.70

Great, thanks for the photo. I have seen these type of pistons and will ask Hughes about them. I just gotta be sure I can run pump gas. I plan to order my stroker kit this week as soon as I feel good about my choice.

I did not remember the numbers, just talked with Hughes and they did the math. The kit they had, 505 (4.355 bore) with 26.7 cc dish would yield a 10.3 to 1 ratio. My block is already a 4.375 bore so he was just figguring the same piston w/ a larger bore size, he may not have checked the math. I will try to clear this up before I write the check. Thanks for the help.
