I am so thankful that my own stupidity did not hurt myself or anybody else. I made the mistake of working on my car for the past four months without checking the lugs on my wheels before hitting the road. I went a mile down the road and heard the clink of one unilug falling off. I was going maybe 30. I slowed her down to 5 and took a right hand turn to get off the highway. Bye Bye wheel. Wheel went off in a ditch. The car road well on the brake rotor to a stop. Again, nobody was hurt and really, the entire car fared well except the fender. I may post pictures if I can bear to go out to the garage to look at her.
The car looks great except the fender. So, needless to say, I need a new fender. I have a parts car with my folks several states away and plan to grab the two front fenders from them next weekend. They are not in the best shape and I think they need some metal work and welding to get them in a better condition. I started looking around on the internet for fiberglass fenders and they seem to be a very reasonable price. I figure I could cut out 100 lbs between a fiberglass bumper and fenders. What are your guy's thoughts?

Glad nothing really bad happened.
If fiberglass fenders are reasonably priced, it's usually a good sign that they are crap. What supplier?
If the car is a daily driver or sees pretty much only street duty you may be disappointed in glass anyway. Unless they are really good quality they won't hold up well.

I do have a parts car and saved the fenders. Interesting thoughts. I know very little about the upkeep of fiberglass. I figured if a corvette does it, why not?

Anyone know where to get replacement wheel well trim? Google didn't turn up anything and I don't think it is salvageable.
