I always use both. 727 are notorious for overlap between the 2nd gear band releasing and the 3rd gear clutch applying. I've never hard a 2-3 flare or slip issue when using both springs. Also use the max number of springs that fit your high clutch piston,preferably 15. The stock steel rings are fine. Any local trans supplier will carry a metal ring kit. About $12 in our area. I have plenty if you can't get them easily in your country. Doug

Are you talking about the piston in the front drum or the piston/servo that applies the 2nd gear band??
