I am trying to determine if the RO/WO cars came from the factory with a spare tire and a bumper jack. The fender tag indicates that five tires were included with the car.

Since the battery was located in the trunk to improve weight transfer, I would think that having a spare tire and jack components would also help get more weight behind the rear axle would be also be desirable.

I would like my restoration to be as accurate as possible so any and all comments are welcomed, since I have no idea what is correct.

Thanks,
Jim

To the best of my knowledge there should be a jack and spare tire. I would suggest you contact Jim Schild at the Auto Review. He is the author of the now out of print 1966-1970 B body Restorer's Guide and has been very helpful in the past. Another source would be MMCDetriot.com. Hope I have been of some help. Let me know what you are able to determine. Best of luck to you.

Your best friend for this car would be "1967 RO\WO Authenticity Guide", by the Auto Review. There is some discussion concerning the on the ground wheels 15" wheels versus the spare tire wheel being same, because the 15" wheel and tire won't fit in the spare tire well. We can help with the radio delete plate if that is missing. This is per a "RO" owner.

Buy the book. I wouldn't consider restoring - or even discussing - these cars without the info & photos Jim provided.

It is a tight fit, but the 15" wheel and tire will fit in the spare tire well, as I have one in my car. The fiberboard cover does not fit flush with the trunk floor, however.

I will definitely purchase the book.

Thanks,
Jim

I understand that the factory sized tired doesn't fit and the correct spare may be a 14". Anyway, I also found that we have the heater delete plate also, and may have most of the jack parts. Mail me if interested.

I have the radio delete and heater delete plate, as they were in the car when I bought it.

In my opinion, the heater delete plate is the most rare part on the car. I have owned this car since 1985 and I have never seen one for sale; new or used.

Thanks for the reply.
Jim

The guy that I work for has the last RO23 made, so we discuss stuff like this over lunch everyday. He is a real wiz. Could probably write a book about it.

Mr Schild just sent me a form to order it. The book is not on his web site yet. For those who would like a copy:

I recently purchased the book friom Jim Drain, and find if to be a great resource. One thing that it did not mentioned is the over speed governor, even in the ignition wiring diagram. It is my understanding that this rev limiter was standard on the RO/WO cars. Does anyone have any input on that?

BTW, I sm still seeking a heater delete plate if anyone knows of one.
Thanks, Joel

Joel,

I have never heard about the rev limiter. If I am not mistaken, the rev limiters of that vintage were driven by the cable tach drive distributor, but the published part number for the RO/WO distributor did not have the mechanical tach drive.
