Greetings
Replacing my worn out Mopar Perf. bronze gear and bought a new Mopar part and it was machined wrong (would not go into the oil pump - the hex was not a hex. So I returned it and got a Milodon part. Nicely made, however it looks like there is only a split pin through the gear/shaft. Do you know if its keyed in some other way, or does the split pin have to take all of the load??

There really isn't any load, except for turning the distributor. The load is in the gear, to drive the oil pump off of the cam.

I must have had a "brain fart" when I wrote this. Sorry????????

Hey Larry, went to a roller last year. The gear drives the oil pump and distributor. The MP part had a big heavy pin, while this looks like an 1/8 split pin. So if the gear/shaft is keyed, then the pin only keeps the gear from popping off the oil pump shaft, but if not keyed, then if the split pin shears.....toasted motor

the last shaft i took apart wasn't keyed. it just had a solid pin. if ur not comfortable with a split pin, change it to a solid pin. i never had one come apart.

I've used them for years. Never had a problem with the roll pin. The gear is pressed onto the shift with a pretty mighty interference fit. Try taking one apart. Even the hydraulic press was groaning.

I ran them without the pin for years before mopar atarted adding them into thiers I've never had one fail without the pin other than twisting the hex drive off of one stock OEM, when a piece of the rear main seal came off and got suckup into the oil pump
