Hi!

I was wondering why is it that when you modify OEM rods for using floating pins, you have to drill a hole on center on the very tip of the rods small end (12 o clock)....

whereas on the new eagle H beam rods you will see they have 2 holes at 5 oclock and 7 oclock.

Why the different locations?

My best wild assed guess.....they pick up more splash in this position.
Some time ago , I had a set of big block rods bushed for a .990 pin and drilled for oiling by a well known shop up here. He came in at 6:00 diagonally to roughly the center of the bushing.
Works on paper.

I'd put a single hole at the top of the pin. From my modeling of a Manley I-beam Hemi rod, the 4 and 8 O'clock positions have higher stress under tension. Under compression, the force is down on the pin, so less stress there again.

I have done it TWO TIMES in my engine building experience .....12 oclock HIGH for me too !!

....NO bushings ... just steel to steel.

Thanks for the replies,,,,

Yes, I also have mine done at 12 o clock when I reuse stock rods. I always use the bronze bushing though...
