my tach is reading all the way up when running. i trouble shot everything i could think of and found that someone tightened the alt gauge terminal too tight and twisted the alt needle and it was grounding out, i straightened that and put it back together and its not working either, and the tach still reads over 8k when running. the minute the key is turned on the tach goes to the top, when the key is turned to the start position it goes to the bottom, but after its started it goes straight to the top again. any help is highly appreciated. thanx

i dont think its defective, because it goes up to the top when its started, its like it has power all the time and not connected to the right post. but i checked the coil wire and it goes to the harness on the firewall, its plugged into the drive side harness bottom to the passenger side hole. im not sure if thats the right hole for it. but its the only one that was empty and had a wire on the same spot on the interior harness.
