Looks like I finally need to replace my injection pump on my 2002 Dodge Ram Truck.
My question is: Where is the cheapest place to buy a injection pump that would have the Brass fuel piston inside the unit rather than the polyurethane or aluminum fuel piston that came on the factory units when the truck was new from the factory??
Also do I need to replace the lift pump when I replace the injection pump?? I was told that I should replace it when replacing the injection pump. I did replace the lift pump with a after-market engine mounted factory type unit about 1 1/2 years ago when the Dealership mechanics shop told me that my lift pump was failing and causing my problems-they were wrong.
Any leads or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If not you need one.

Most all new pumps will have all the upgrades ans well as electronics.

I would use MWFI http://www.mwfi.com/ or Pensacola diesel. http://pensacoladiesel.com/?sl=EN

I did the VP44 replacement in my driveway about 4 years ago. I also did the lift pump relocation of a new OEM pump with the kit from Vulcan (this moves the lift pump to the frame rail in front of the tank and off the engine) I shopped the internet and found many sources and a lot of step-by-step postings on the various Cummins sites. I had never done any work on a diesel (other than oil & filter changes) before, so I was little concerned about DIY, but following the postings it was relatively easy and successful. Eventually I replaced the newer OEM lift pump with a DDRP and saw over 20# fuel pressure (dash mounted digital FP gauge) leading to the VP44 at all times. Don't be afraid to DIY, you can do it. Spend your shop labor money on better parts, you will be glad you did!

there is a forum for dodge truck guys for personal and perfessional use,,tons of information,, you can read on the forum but not post unless you subscribe to the new letter it is a tri monthly catolog not really a new letter with all types of do it your self repairs, and advertisements,,,turbo diesel regestry, there is a place in GA ? that specializes in dodge truck items after market and O,E some great prices, called GENOS GARAGE

are you sure your injection pump is bad ? if you dont have a fuel pressure gauge you will never know if the lift pump is working,, the truck will run with out the lift pump working as long as u never open the system(change fule filter) but sooner or later that will take out the vp44,,much cheaper to run a fuel pressure gauge, i also relocated mt lift pump to the frame under the tank ,, its not the cure but it helps the lift pump live longer, one of the problems is all the lift pumps are made cheap, they run hot, they should of put it in the tank, when on the back of the motor factory location they are farther away from the fuel then able to work correctly and a lift pump is a pusher not a puller as the factory made it to be,, they will fail usually around 12 to 60 thousand miles,,, jegs sells a pump very similar to the OE pump has a little more pressure and cost less then one from cummins or your local parts store,,

I second Midwest Fuel Injection. I have bought a couple of pumps from them. They have all the latest upgrades to the pump are are probably your best cost too.

Whatever you do please stay away from Pensacola Diesel. I've replaced a lot of parts that customers had purchased through them and were no good out of the box.
