I pulled the oil pan today to fix 2 small oil leaks..
when it came down it fell out of my hand and hit the
the floor(car was on the hoist) but no big deal...
then I noticed my flapper door was all bent up..
looking at it closer I seen that it had flipped up
and had been hitting the crank... I didnt think it
would flip vertical but it did when it was in the car...
I'm gonna change oil pumps just in case it caused
any pump issues... I pulled 2 rod caps and 2 mains
and everything was fine

Good move ... but just curious ... how well do you have the doors sealing?

They are just metal on metal doors... I dont want
them to seal I'm just slowing up the oil movement
on decell... it has a gap around the pick up tube
that will let oil by it sorta slowly... the doors open
on acceleration allowing oil to the rear where the
pick up is... with a baffle across the top to help
keep it off the seal and the crank

I added a stopper for the door so it cant flip up...
added a new oil pump for the "just in case" and put a
rear main seal in it for the "just in case"... in a little
while I'll go out and put the pan on... its all cleaned
up and ready to go on

I ask this because my boat pan has two doors that really don't seal all that well. PROBABLY one of the reasons why the guy who owned this before me FRIED two motors in it ...

They're not suppose to seal... they are there to
slow the oil movement.. on decell

To seal perfectly ?.... I don't think so ... then they would build them with rubber seals of some sort. But I have seen some that have a .200+ gap .... and with hot oil ... that would "leak" like a maggot-farmer.

If the pan is sealed up then yes I should be putting
some miles on it... I put the belts in yesterday
but I still need to bolt the seats in.. thats only
a few minutes

Its a pan that I built but I never figured about the
door flipping up vertical and hitting the crank..
I sorta figured it would go 90* and that would be
it... glad I pulled it for the small oil leak

Yeah he does... I still have a pipe nipple leaking..
it comes out of the block and has a AN fitting on it
that goes to the remote filter... I've had some problems
with this fitting before... I'm gonna pull the header
and fix it right... I've been dancing around this thing
for a while.... at least the pan it sealed up
EDIT
I believe I found the problem... I used a steel nipple
in the block and that is dry and tight... then I
used a steel coupling(and I didnt even have teflon
on it(but I hate using steel)specially steel on steel
so I'll pick up a brass coupler tomorrow and get this problem fixed..... I hope

Well my fix on the pipe nipple didnt fix the leak..
I'm gonna pull the remote fittings off the block and
see if I can put it back to standard... now I have to
find one of the oil filter plates... Mancini doesnt
carry them (obsolete).. I might have to make one if
I cant find one
EDIT
This engine HATES me... I was running it to see if
the leak was fixed.. I had it running about 1/2 hour
then I lowered it down and was looking at the top side
to make sure where the leak was.. when the upper radiator
hose blew off and covered me and the wall of the shop...
I wonder why I do this sh17... I should pull this
engine and put a stock 318 in it... rant off

I re-did the pipe nipple coming out of the block... I took
my calipers to the hardware store and got the 3 largest brass ones they had...
it went in much tighter than what I had in it... even with teflon tape...
I pulled the pan and the header just for more room to get this damn
leak fixed... I'll put the pan back on tomorrow... the header is already
back on... at least the pan is easy to get on and off... about 10 minutes..
tomorrow will tell the tale
EDIT
the old steel nipple would bottom out at the end of the threads
before it would get tight... this one is much tighter

I thought it was tight... but it wasnt.. the end
of the clamp was hitting the fancy housing so the
screw quit turning making me think it was tight..
oh well... but when I put it back on I gave it a good
pull to make sure

Good. I was thinking if it was making that much pressure in the cooling system, you have bigger probs than a small oil pan leak!

I got the oil leak fixed it looks like... but I still
need to jet this thing down.. still fat and the plugs
are all loaded up with oil... I'm gonna pick up another
set of plugs today and start fresh... it has 7"-8"
of vac at idle in gear so the PV should be close..
sure hope it doesnt have a oil issue.. the pipes are
still coated with oil(inside)... been trying to run
it long enough to burn it out but I need to run it
harder to clean them out... I dont see any oil when
its idling... I tried the OD today for the first time..
I sure like that
