How hard and what would be the best way to go about taking a 7.50 certified mild steel chassis out of my daytona, approximately 93-97 inch wheel base to a Duster length car. I will double check the wheel base tomorrow but just kicking around ideas. I really want to leave my present 1970 Duster alone and build one last mid to low 8 second duster with my 572. My Daytona is a 2 person car so I want to build something fast and simple to scratch that last itch before I finish my racing days in the car I am racing now. I guess front would be the way to go but what issues am I looking at with the current Daytona width? Thanks guys for any ideas.

Wont even come close to fitting... if you can weld its easier to build a new chassis... myself... it would be moly.... thats about $1100 in tubing... I'll even sell you my hyd bender... I'm done building chassis now days

never say never sell that bender and you will wish you had it in a short time.
Nope... I'm done... I can make money faster welding or machining and I dont have the hassles... I have way to much stuff already

Chrome molly is out. Kicking around either selling the Daytona or using the frame for a longer wheel-base duster. Sounds like the change-over is a bad way to go.

Well I got a chance to talk to the guy that updated my Daytona up to 7.50 cert and discussed my plans with him. He recently retired and is going to work strictly out of his shop now. He is going to be coming over in the near future to see if it can be done but he kinda thinks its possible. I can also buy my 72 duster that was my first race car and an original 340 4 speed car for 1500 dollars. This may just happen.

Why make the duster a tube chassis? Can't make a car go fast unless its a flyweight?

With Matt racing I am without help a lot of the time now and the Daytona is a rough car to race by yourself. I figure if I can get the duster around 2500 pounds very low 8's would be possible. The Daytona went high 8.40's low 8.50's with the 572 after just 8 runs with a new Barry Grant fuel pump and 440-1 heads and almost pump gas compression. My b1 heads are ready to go and flow a lot better plus I just picked up an alcohol set-up. I think Top Sportsman has to run 8.20 so I should be able to squeeze in.
