For almost a year I have been having a problem with starting my Barracuda. It was intermittent so it was difficult to diagnose but I have finally come to the conclusion that my positive battery cable has somewhat rotted out on the inside causing the problem. When I turned it to a certain angle the car started right up. I never knew it was possible for a cable to rot out/have a bad connection on the inside.

I bought the current cable about 6-7 years ago and it is a repro of the factory style cable. I remember paying About $40 for it. I checked with Classic Industries and they want $127 for a made in America repro. Then I did some searching on line and found others that had the same part under $50 but it didn't say made in America. I'd hate to buy the expensive version and have that one rot out in 6 years. The original Chrysler cables lasted longer than that.

Anyone have the same dilemma? Are the cheaper cables the same quality or are they inferior? What would you guys do? Thanks in advance.

the cheaper cables are going to be made with a mix of copper and other junk and will degrade quicker. the more expensive ones SHOULD be made of purer copper and won't corrode as quickly. i bought a set from YearOne some 25 years ago and they are still clean and work great.

Thanks a lot Mike. I guess I will go for the made in America cable.

check out Dixie Restoration. i can't speak for E-body but for the b-body he sells a 'correct' version of the cable and a far less expensive 'incorrect but fits' version. shoot him an e-mail with your concern. mail@dixierestorationparts.com

Mike, I checked the Dixie website. They have it for $17 cheaper than Classic Industries. It may not be much but that should at least save me the shipping. Thanks for the heads up.

I tried to buy the cable from Dixie but according to their website it is on Back Order. I found this other thread essentially asking the same thing I did but about B Bodys.

I'm going to give Bill a call at AM High Tech Auto. His are more money but it would seem I would be getting the best cable out there. Since I drive my car long distances I need it to be reliable. Thanks for your help.

Here is a post I did awhile back about our cables. You can read it and see if it's what you're looking for. The in-depth description is in the middle of the thread.
