a few weeks ago i noticed my truck was steering harder than usual. when turning at a stop sign if you let the wheel go it will continue to turn. the wheels dont straighten out like they should. the ps pump isnt making any noise. also when turning in 4wd it makes a clicking noise by the wheels. almost a ratcheting noise. probably the u joints in the axle? but would this cause it to steer hard in 2wd?

It can cause that, but best bet is to jack up one side of axle at a time, whatever, and rotate each wheel by hand and see if it binds. Normally you can see the rusty residue by the axle joint caps and even the slop in them when they're toast.

and its a CAD axle too.

might check wheel bearings,if they get sloppy the rotor tilts draging the disc brakes on turns.

check the outer axle bearing on the one side.

if you replace the axle u-joint..IIWM, I would service the whole front CAD axle as a unit replacing all joints/bearings/seals/BJ on the tubes and let the diff be untill it turn to tear down and service.

and this is where I would be swaping in a live axle with lockouts to ditch that CAD axle system
