Thought I'd share the "restoration" I did on an AM Radio that I recently purchased (I use the term "restoration" loosely, as it's mostly cosmetic), however, I started with a functional/working radio. Sorry for only posting photos of the finished work (I didn't take any pictures before I started). First, I disassembled the radio (I left nearly all of the internals intact); then wire-wheeled/cleaned the surface rust from the case/housing, and all case/faceplate screws; cleaned all visible wires; degreased/re-lubed some moving internals parts; polished the clear "Station" lens, and repainted the lettering/numbering with "Sharpie" White Paint Marker
( station lens before https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=7703868 ); cleaned/prepped the faceplate and "chrome-painted" the border with "Krylon" Chrome Paint Pen; removed old chrome push-buttons ( https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=7689677 ); installed new chrome push-buttons, new inner/outer knobs, and new light bulb. It wasn't hard to do, but it did take time and patience. I included (along with "restored" pictures) a photo of the faceplate after I prepped it and before "restoring".

Wow! very nice. Wanna do mine next? Where did you find the new push buttons?

Thanks for the compliment. Below is the only (not so good) photo I have of the radio before I bought and "restored" it. This was taken by the seller (Cuda-Challenger member) and was one of many that he provided when he posted on the "Parts For Sale" board. IMO, the radio was in "good" condition, but the chrome on the push-buttons was slightly pitted and starting to lift; the entire case had mild surface rust/corrosion all over; the cast aluminum front was mildly oxidized, etc, etc. I believe everything I did needed to be done to get it to what I feel is now "excellent" condition. It's not "mint" or perfect, but I am pleased with the end result. It's the first time I tackled something like this, and it was a great learning experience.

Regarding new chrome push-buttons: They are available from several vendors, but I bought a set from Greg Ward. He replied to my post here: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=7689677

He was kind enough to sell me a set for $70.00 shipped. The cheapest I found them anywhere else was $83.00 (+ shipping and/or tax).

If you need someone to do yours, have Greg do it. He has the knowledge, experience and expertise, and judging by the photos on his website, he's likely the best.

Looks nice. You should convert the internals so you can plug an ipod or whatever in it.
