.... this is regarding my 73 Roadrunner. Wow - wish I'd done more research, everything I read up to today said lower ball joints were press fit, guess not. My replacements I ordered are press fit. Anyway , gave my LCA's to a buddy who had press access - he did a great job with the welded washer/torsion bar bushing removal trick, but also pressed out the ball joints, obviously the threads are shot , I'm assuming I can press in the new (same diameter) and tack weld ........ doubt I'll ever be replacing again as it won't be driven much .... just a few tacks or a full bead ? Heat issues ? Thanks. New LCA's are not an option at this point unless freebies.

Press-in is late 73 (as parts dried up), on up.

I really wouldn't weld, that would scare me. it's your neck I'd look for a new set of LCAs (sorry). bummer

Get the correct ball joints and see if they will screw in. Then Tack them in one or two spots.

That being said.

Even though Mopar used tack welds on some ball joints but I would look for new arms. They aren't that expensive.

They may bite and allow me to thread in - I'll give it a shot - not having much luck on replacements - Ebay clowns asking 125 and up - no swap meets for a few months ...........

I'll keep an eye out around here. At pull-apart I think they are around $25 or $30.

Remember that from 73 up until 7??? the B bodies used the same arms. Charger, Satellite, Cordoba, I think even some Diplomats & later Newports or maybe it was the Fury that also used the B body Chasis. If it looks the same it will fit. The Mirada's used a transverse T-bars and are different. You can see where the T-bar mounts on the LCA instead of having the HEX in the back of the bushing. It doesn't have to be a 73/74 B body.

Put an add in the wanted section here lots of people here are very helpful.

Good Luck

Most 73 b bodies should be screw in type lower ball joint. I believe they went to press in ball joints in 74. I have a NOS arm 3815407 which according to the parts book it fits 1974 b bodies and it already has the ball joint installed. The nos arms I had put on my 73 charger didn`t have the ball joint installed and it was a bear installing them. It appears the easiest way to ID the difference between press in or screw in ball joints are the ball joint has no nut made onto it. The press it ball joint is round.
