Here's the deal-

My 2000 300M has 155,000 miles on it. It runs great, but it has developed a bad ticking at between 2400-3200 RPM coming from the top of the engine. The oil is clean, it runs well, but the noise isn't getting any better.

Have any of you Mopar techs (or non Mopar techs!) heard of this. It's the 3.5L V6 engine. I want to fix it and run it for another 150K if I can.

HELP!

Cold and hot? Does it have any coolant leaks? You might have a collapsed lifter or broken valve spring. I would pop the valve covers off and have a look. It may be something minor but turn into something major if you keep driving it.

I'm pretty sure the 3.5L is an overhead cam engine. If you have not replaced the timming belt, I would guess the belt is starting to come apart!

True dat, they are notorious for the water pump going and taking out the timing belt. That can cause an engine (lifter type) noise. Usually you will get coolant on the floor.

Also check the drivers side cam shaft sprocket bolt.Might be loose or broken.

Sorry for the delay guys, and thanks for the responses. It had a new belt and water pump at 80K, so this one has about 75K on it. The car has been flawless otherwise. I have a friend looking at it on Sunday, so we'll see what the deal is. There are no coolant leaks anywhere.

Keep the responses coming if there arer any more ideas.

Thanks!
