Need suggestions for air cleaner solution...

After installing an Edelbrock 600 carb with 1/2" wood spacer on my 74 Cuda which has a 440 and Weiand 8009 manifold, neither my old 3" air cleaner, nor the free Eddy 3" air cleaner (#1223, 14" diameter, 3 3/4 height) gives me enough clearance to close the hood.
Looks like I'm lacking a good inch or so of clearance Clarence ....

Any ideas of what size/kind of air cleaner I can use? I thought about using the free Eddy air cleaner cover and replacing the it's 3" filter with 2" filter , but not sure if the engine would be air starved or not with the smaller filter....

Any suggestions appreciated!!

Maybe use a dropped base filter housing?

If the drop base doesn't work, maybe the 2" filter and one of those filter lids?

Thanks. Have an electric choke on the carb, so can't go much lower of a dropped base than the free eddy cleaner I have now.

If you switch to a 2" filter and you have a drop base you need to look at how much space you have between the air cleaner top and the air horn of the carb , it can cause an airflow issue .

yep...it looks like i'll have 1 1/4 of clearance, which may not be enough Short of using a sawsall on the hood (just joking), not sure what options I have left...

Spacers between the k member and body, And maybe switch to a Holley Maybe a Holley is shorter. A 600 is pretty small for a 440 anyway , unless your engine is totally stock.

Eddy has a moderate drop base 14x3 air cleaner. Its available at parts stores and not too expensive. I'm running one on a flat hood BB with M1 manifold. It may clear the choke on yours - worth a try. You can probably return it if it doesn't fit. Summit has all manner of drop bases but many are expensive.

Yep...the free Eddy one is a drop clearance 14x3 that ends up being too tall. Thanks all for the suggestions (and any more that are out there)

Update! Found a Mr. Gasket 14x2 filter at O'Reillys and replaced the 14x3 Edelbrock one...gives enough clearance with about 3/4" to spare!
