Carbon from the pistons ? New heads narrows the possibilities , but I have to think if it were a spark generated by any kind of metal on metal , you'd know it.
New headers ?
Could be stuff getting " cleaned " off the insides of the tubes.

Where do most spaks come from Burning metal or some other sort of burning solids Did the motor that the headers where on before installing the new motor use a large amount of oil or run real rich Something is not good, time to find out what is causing it Please let us know what you find, maybe that will help someone else in teh future

you probably just answered your own question.

I am sitting here laughing in my sleep after reading this post. Not because I hope that something is wrong but it reminded me of my Friends 1967 camero back when we used to street race in the 1970's. His 327 powered 4 speed Camero would shoot sparks out of what appeared to be the headers anytime he would race someone. Headers were not street legal in Pa back then but we all had them on our cars but they were with full exhaust. He seriously bought this car off a little old lady and it was crazy fast in its stock state. On a compression test it would pump out 230 pounds plus and we never wanted to make changes to this engine for fear of unsealing something and going backwards. The only time we would see these sparks was when he jumped on it real hard or during one of our late night street races. I still see Chuck once in a while and he still owns the car so now I have to bring up this subject hopefully when I see him. Back to bed.

hijack!!!
prolly a "tonawanda" motor. they always burned oil, and ran hella strong. my buddy had a nova with one (street racer), and whenever he raced, it also shot sparks out the exhaust. LOTS!

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?
