Finally got a chance to start fixing something on my 71 R/T Challenger that's been bugging me since the day I bought it over 10 years ago.
The tail light surrounds were argent silver and stuck out like a sore thumb.
Whoever designed the the installation/removal of these needs to be flogged.
I did take a little more parts off than I needed but I wanted to clean stuff and make sure nothing got broken.
I pulled the silver set and went to install the black R/T set.
At first the black set wouldn't fit, after looking the black set has a quick nut stud located on the bottom of both sides near the quarter panel but no hole in the car to mount it through.
After checking the argent set I removed there was a place for the stud but it looks like it was omitted from the factory.
I ended up cutting off the un-needed studs on the black set and the install went great.
There must have been 2 different types of rear tail light surrounds?
Here is a pic of the argent trim stud boss with no stud...sure looks factory.
On the black set I installed there was a quick nut stud in the same location.
I don't think it was an original R/T set.
Before
Much better...love the blacked out look of the R/T's.
Once I get it all back together I'll get the rear quarter and trunk lid trim painted correctly.
