Hey guys I need some help from all you smart fellas out there. Possibly from someone who has done the TransGo TF-2 kit on a 727 before. The instruction are pretty clear for the most part, a little strange, but that's beside the point. On page 3 of the instructions it says, 1. 77up V-8 trans with lockup. It then continues with instructions to drill holes all the way down the page. So my question is, is the whole page JUST for 77 and up trans with lockup or just the first bullet on the page? I would like to only do this once as most of you understand. I've attached the picture I'm referring too. I'm wondering because my transmission is a 1970 727 without lockup. Thanks for your help!

Only #1 relates to lockups, #2-#6 are for all.

Sweet thanks! That's all I needed. The instructions are probably pretty simple but I work along side an engineer all day so I'm trained to over think everything.

So I got the kit installed and wow! My 2-3 shifts are amazing now. I've got a little problem I need help figuring out though. The transmission won't downshift at full throttle no matter what. If I slow down to 30 mph and floor it, it stays in 3rd gear. My shift points are perfect during normal driving and increase with throttle pressure so my kickdown linkage is adjusted fine. If I come to a stop it shifts from 3-1 like it should too. Is this just an adjustment with the throttle valve stop in the valve body? Possibly my front band adjustment?
Any help is much appreciated!

Have somebody sit in the car and hold the throttle pedal to the mat...from under the hood push rearward on the slotted rod, if it has more than 1/4" of movement before it stops it won't kickdown at WOT.

Possible causes are carb not going wide open with the pedal on the mat or incorrect linkage parts. If all that is good the only solution is to adjust the linkage so that there is less movement at WOT (lengthen the linkage).

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that I have a lokar kickdown cable. I just checked it and at full throttle there is zero play at the lever on the transmission. Before I installed the tf-2 kit it would downshift just fine. Is there an adjustment that I missed on the valve body? I adjusted the throttle valve stop to the factory setting and after doing a little research I'm finding that it's not correct with the modified throttle valve and spring set up. Could that affect full throttle downshift?

Well I pulled the valve body again and rechecked all my work. Everything in the valve body checked out. I rechecked the adjustment on my bands and this time instead of just tightening them snug and then backing them off, I used an inch/pound wrench and torqued the adjusters to 72 inch/pounds then backed them off to the recommended settings (2 turns on the 5.0 kickdown band and 2-1/2 turns on the rear band). I also turned the line pressure up one turn which probably wasn't necessary.

Anyway, whatever I did worked because it downshifts better than ever now. I couldn't be happier with this kit and I highly recommended it to anybody with a torqueflite.

Oh yeah, I also replaced the plug orifice supplied in the kit with an 1/8" npt allen plug that I drilled a .140" hole in.

I'm not sure what I did to fix the downshift problem but maybe this information will help someone in the future.
