What are the correct OEM finishes for E-body non-A/C blower motors?

It would appear that they were available in both clear zinc plating as well as gloss black paint.

However:

- was gloss black used on the assembly line or was it simply for NOS replacements?

- is there a cutover date from plated to painted, or alternatively, by model year?

- any variation between Hamtramck and LA built E-bodies in this regard?

Thanks in advance

I have had motors with part number 3441 022 dated from 1819 to 2731 and various ones with a newer part number, all were in original condition and all were silver zinc finished(about 40 in total). That includes four that originally came on L.A. made cars. The finish was not the commonly and erroneously seen "blue" finish, but a neutral/flat silver color.

70 to maybe 72 were zinc plated. 73's were definately painted black. My dad bought my car brand new. I was the first person to take the blower motor out of the heater box. It was black. I don't have the date code info with me right now but the date code stamped on the motor is correct for the build date of the car...it's the original motor.(car built Oct 12th 1972)

back side of motor before being removed from the rear metal mount plate...
