I got a scan tool back in the late 90's. It is a KAL Equip Scan II (model CP9600) made by Actron. It has a problem in that it won't read my 2005 Magnum,my father's 2005 300 or my wife's 2007 Caliber. It will read my 2004 Dakota just fine.

My question is did the OBDII program used by vehicles newer than 2005 change? Or is my tool just too outdated?

You need a CAN(controller area network) compliant scan tool. Its being used as a standard for modules to communicate via serial data lines.

Check with manufacturer. Maybe there are upgrades available

I checked their website and my tool isn't even listed.
