OK this is gonna sound really crazy but.... I just purchased a 1986 Reliant 2.5 SE Coupe with 36K miles (yes original and verified). The rear is sagging just enough to make me crazy. Here's the question...I have no aspirations that this thing is gonna be a corner carver, but I'd like to to: A) Be even or a wee bit higher in the aft end. B) Handle a wee bit better than normal. I am considering a pair of K car Wagon springs over the stockers.... Comments/ideas/suggestions? At some point I'll be putting 195-70R14's on it as my brother in law has wheels from a Shadow. And that profile is an upgrade in 87 K cars I believe.

New springs and new gas shocks and you will be suprised how it sits.We had older Cavilars and Celebrites come in with worn shocks.Just changing them to new gas raised them.Rocky

Doing a quick check on an '87 Shelby Turbo Z, the shocks all cross reference, so the shock idea I'm considering first. The coils don't cross reference on face value, but I also found variable coils, not too sure about them. I can get a spring set for $60 + state tax and the Monroe shocks $70 a pair.

Wondering if Shelby Charger or GLH stuff will fit? Those cars handled very well. Just a thought.
L body chassis and K-car chassis are two completely different animals. There both fwd and 2.2 is about the only thing that is the same between them.

Load leveler springs wont really raise it.They are made so when you add weight they increase the pressure so the car dosent sag as much.I installed quite a few at the shop.Try a set of good gas shock.People say shocks dont lift the car.Ive seen it quite a few times where they did.For better handling you will need them anyway.Rocky

Fast K car...OMG!!! That was ridiculous.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yT6tPsMfjII think I'm gonna try the shocks first. I did cross reference the shocks and they are the same from Z car to K car...same part number. I kinda figured the L body was different. The springs are just as easy as the shocks. If it were in the budget, I'd do both the same time.

Thanks, wait till it comes back out.
The Daytona shocks and springs will interchange, the Daytona springs will cause the car to sit lower though.

2.5 SOHC with hybrid T3/T4 turbo running 35 psi of boost on 88-89 SMEC electronics with 85 pph injectors, 3 bar map of course.
Look up springs for a dodge spirit or plymouth caravelle, both are larger bodys and the springs should interchange.

For handling- Get a set of 15 x 6.5 "crab rims" and install 225/50-15's, (avoid the 16" shelby wheels, rubber is too tall and rim too narrow) lay hands on a turbo z or Daytona shelby (85-88) sway bar (1 1/8") and you will find the car will handle very sharp. 89-91 is a different k-frame so the sway bar will not fit.
I have noted a strut brace does work well with these cars, if you are handy with a welder you can make your own.

I think I'm going to go with the Moog 8261 (I think) rear springs from the wagon. Next upgrade will be the KYB's from what I've looked at. What do the crab wheels look like? I can't weld to save my a$$.... but I know someone. If not I may be able to construct one, I've got measuring tools and a grinder...

Sorry I didn't have enough coffee- You want the crab wheels, not the pumpers. I'll post a picture of both. Here is a picture of my Daytona with "crab" rims.
Note- They also made a 6 inch wide version for Shadows, not as good as the Daytona's 6.5"

AH!! I see. I may run to the local junk yard, there were more than a few shadow/sundances there but I didn't notice the wheel. I get in free, so it's no big deal.

gd - I FOUND your website....that's awesome. I'd love to get into the 13's with this and have it handle better. I'll be picking up my springs this afternoon. I'm lusting for a T2, but that'll have to wait for a bit. My plan of attack right now is: Springs Sway Bar Wheels and Tires This budget thing sucks, but I gotta do what I can afford. If the employment fairy blesses me with a better paying job, then things will accelerate. Literally, ha!

It sucks being on a tight budget, but someone locally is selling his pizza rims with good 195-65/15 BFG Touring tires. I realize they are 15X6, but can I get away with using them? They can be had for $100, off his Shadow. With these rims, what size tire am I limited to? Thanks again for all the help!
