How many .000 per cc ? My heads are about 173 , would like to get them down to 168 ?

The heads are 2005 vintage iron anchors ...

Id measure the diameter of you combustion chamber and do the math as if it was the thickness of a gasket....should get you pretty close. better to shave a bit less than a bit too much....cc them again and see if you have to shave em any more than that.

This is moparts , surely I can get someone else to do that and tell me the answer?

But good point on the head gasket thickness .

I looked in my 2002 vintage MP catolog and it says they are supposed to be 170cc just like original castings ... NOT ...

Why does this not surprise me.

Myself I would pour in your amount of liquid to see
where thats at... then measure what you need to cut
(of course this is with the head level)... no guessing

why you want to shave em down to 168 ccs? making them super stock legal or what?

If its for a street build, id rather use a thinner gasket than shave off the head. why take life of your head in case you need to resurface it down the road?

That information is in the Mopar Hemi manual, but I'm at work, sorry.

Yes I found that out at 2am this morning

I'm trying to decide how much money to spend. I would like to bump the compression on the hemi to 10.5 , but I don't really have $2500 kicking around to do it via the stroker route ... As it is it's going to be 1500 to buy new semi custom pistons , bore and rebalance

You are looking for 5cc, that'll be about 0.020".

I just did the math on a 4.25" bore, 5cc is 0.0215".

This is not exact but it'll get you closer.....

Thanks , I really wish I could cut the head that much , as it is the edge of the intake valve is close to the OD of the chamber ... which is close to 4.320 ...

The fix is a semi custom piston with a 92cc dome ... or the 4.375 stroke crank I put my name on ...

The Mopar Hemi engine manual says remove .0041" for each cc. For each .010 removed cut .0085" off the intake face and .0116" from the front and rear rails of the block.

Yes the intake valves are veryclose to the edge of the chamber, but you can still mill them. Take your intake valve out and see where the valve seats. All you need is that the valve is still sitting. The edge of the valves will protrude a bit past the flat surface of the head after you shave them.

Still I would advice to get a stroker crank or custom pistons to get you where you want compression wise....why shave the heads when its not needed? HEMI heads are expensive.
