I have a 1969 Coronet R/T.It had f 70 14 marked on the inside of the trunk lid.I have researched this, and I think it came with GoodYear Speedway red stripe tires. Is this right? Who has them?
TIA

They should be Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Tread's ...not the same as Speedway's.

On the '69 hi-performance b-bodies with 383HP (Super Bee & Road Runner) or 440HP (R/T, R/T & GTX):
The T83 F70-14 "red stripe" Goodyear SPEEDWAY was STANDARD.

OPTIONAL was the T85 F70-14 "red stripe" Goodyear POLYGLAS at $26.45.

Also, OPTIONAL was the T82 F70-14 "white stripe" Goodyear SPEEDWAY at no-charge.

What else besides the

Got pics? Got broadcast sheet?

since we are on the topic of this and we just got a very early SPO dated 69 GTX vert, would the red lines have been firestone or goodyear for a October 3, 1968 car?

Goodyear (I've only seen b-bodies w/Firestones late-spring/summer of '69 & that might be plant dependant)

What evidence do you have that the car had F70-14 "red stripe" Firestones on it when it was new?

nothing hard core really just that the majority of the people I talked to when I was asking about what brand tires for my charger should be. Oh, also, I apologize, I have white walls on my charger, not red lines. Still thinking about the GTX with the red lines and the same rims as my charger.

I would get the Goodyears. They just look better. However, I bought a new 383 RoadRunner 4 speed on September 8, 1969 and it had Firestone Wide Oval Red Lines. They lasted about 3 months and 5000 miles!!

I was a poor 20 year old college student but that didn't stop me. I never worried about the tires when I was peeling out until I had to get new ones! I'm a lot older now but still like putting the pedal to the metal, plus, I can afford it now.

My 69 charger R/T has an F70 Firestone wide oval redline original spare tire. Car has a SPD of A02 October 2 1968 code T83 tire on Broadcast Sheet FWIW.

Any chance you can get some detailed pics of the wheel & tire? Was the car assembled at Hamtramck or St. Louis?

Working on a 1969 Charger now - July 1969 SBD and it has it's original Goodyear Polyglas redline spare. Never ck'd but I'm pretty sure the owner thought it was the OE spare.

I wonder if it was a thing of what they had on hand at the time. Remember, Mopar had multiple vendors for product just in case something like a strike or other kind of event would shut down that vendor part. Take horns for example, you had Spartan and Prestolite. Chrysler wouldn't shut down the assembly line due to running out of one vendor's tire, they would simply use what they had to keep the assembly line going.

My 69 F3 R/T Hamtrammck built Oct 29, 1968 had a Firestone Redline in the trunk when I got it in the summer of 1982. It was a pretty unmolested car. I can't say for sure it left the factory with that spare, but it was brand new and never been on the ground. I highly doubt someone put it in it. After the original owner sold it, it had several until I got it. The exhaust tips had been changed, it had 14" slots and the 3.54 Dana was gone with a 3.91 Sure-grip in place. But, that's it, still had the vapor separator, hemi mufflers, stock engine etc. and around 83K miles. Not conclusive proof by any means, but I think it was original.

My car was built in Hamtramck. I will try to get some pics, and then attempt to post them.
