I'm swapping out the wheels on my 08 magnum. Is there any problem with removing the TPMS sensors from my old wheels to install in the new wheels? I've read I need to buy new ones or at least new installation kits? On the other hand if I buy aftermarket sensors for my new wheels, I've read there's something I have to do to get the computer to learn them? Third option would be to just run without sensors, unless that would cause a problem. Anyone got experience with these things?

should be no problem reusing them plus the lx cars reset the sensors just by driving with them. they may have to be banded to the wheel depending on the wheel tire combo

I was just wondering about this concerning my 2010 Ram truck. I bought a set of aftermarket wheels and tires to use on it in the summer. I really hate the thought of having the light on all of the time, but I don't want to switch them out.
Sensors from the dealer run around $50 each at my cost. However I've seen them on ebay for around that price per set of 4. Those are supposed to be genuine Mopar parts, too.
What gives on the price difference?
Also, will the truck learn to read the new sensors, or will it have to be reprogrammed?

from what i have seen all Chrysler products seem to relearn the sensors on their own. i always just mark where they came from so it makes it a little easier. changing sensors really isn't to bad. they either bolt on from the top with a 11 or 12 mm socket or they have a small screw on the bottom of the sensor that screws into a special valve stem which you should be able to get at any tire shop

I guess I should have gone into a bit more detail. I now have my original steel wheels (with original sensors) with rough tires I will only use in the winter, and a second set of tires and wheels for summer use. I didn't want to have to break down each set a couple of times a year to switch the sensors back and forth. I want to leave the original sensors in the original wheels.
So I'm debating whether to just let the dash light shine in the summer or whether to buy the cheap sensors on ebay and install them on my summer set of wheels and tires.
Thanks for the reply,
Dallas

That dash light blinks and it pops up with a chime every few miles too. I thought I could live with it but it's very annoying and now I'm gonna buy more sensors too. Just got the winter wheels off so now's the time to do it. Watching here to see if aftermarket cheaper ones will last.

Luckily my car just has a light, no chime.
I just put a piece of electrical tape over my light when I have my winter tires on.

One thing has changed though, on my wife's 2013, it uses the anti-lock
sensors to detect RPM differences on an under-inflated tire to
turn the light on.

No more added cost when purchasing seasonal rims. Hooray!

The prices seem a bit questionable? With bare wheels, just which of the pieces do you need? (I've never seen this setup with the tire off.)
pc 5 is the sensor, listing for $0.38
pc 6 is a module for $4.85
pc 4 is a valve stem for $3.06

Are those prices for aftermarket parts? I try to buy only OE parts whenever I can.

The list price from the dealer for part # 56029398AB is $78.95 EACH. This is supposed to be the correct p/n for my truck, but evidently is used in multiple applications. My cost for a set of 4 is $208.60 with my discount.

The same part # is listed on ebay here;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tire-Pressure-Mo...091&vxp=mtr
A set of 4 is $72.00 These are listed as OE parts also.

I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around the price difference. I was wondering if I was overlooking something.

Thanks for the replies, and my apologies to the op for hijacking his thread. Hopefully the additional input is helpful to all.

Yeah, the prices just seem way out of whack - like incredibly low. And they came from the online mopar parts site referenced earlier. I have a feeling someone lost track of the decimal point when loading the database so I had to go order a set just to try it out. What the heck, a full set shipped for under 25.00 is worth a shot.

are those OEM mopar sensors on that link? Also how did you get the discount to get a set of 4 for $208? I have a 2013 ram on the way and have been looking into sensors too. They list at 100 bucks each in canada, so i was going to buy them in the states anyway as i am close to the boarder. What year truck do you have? i want a second set for when i buy aftermarket wheels but trying not to spend 300 to 400 bucks unless i have too. My tire guy said the mopar system does not always work well with aftermarket sensors. I have not had any vehicles with tire pressure sensors on them so this is all new to me.

In the link I posted it says OE Mopar parts. That was why I was questioning the price. My truck is a 2010. I think the list price at the dealer here is something like $78 each. At the $208 price the dealer quoted for a set of 4 , they are supposed to be selling them to me at 10% over their cost.
I agree on buying OE over aftermarket, especially if the part is electrical in nature.

Well, the place is a Dodge dealer up in Washington/Oregon, can't remember which now. They put a hold on my online order since I hadn't entered the vin. Called them today with the vin and he said they'd get them shipped out. Got home tonight to another email "Part you have selected is incorrect for your car. The correct part # is 68078768AA and it runs $55.50 and it comes with vale stems. We will leave your order on hold untill we hear back in reguards to these changes." Sheesh I hate bad spelling....... Anyway, haven't decided if I'll blow the 220.00 for factory or try the aftermarket for 50.00 for the set.
It is irritating that you step through the parts catalog for your car and then get told that you didn't get the right p/n, always wonder if it's a bait-n-switch type thing or just one of the vagaries of the parts book.
