Ok lads, I think I f'd somethin' up here. I recently installed my 69 440hp with a brand new engine harness. I wired a summit ignition and coil into a msd dist. with new 8.0 street fire wires. I mixed up the plug wires. The motor bounced around pretty good, backfired, popped, and a nice little flame burst through the carb. I sorted out the plug wires now the engine runs like I'm missing a cylinder. I pulled all the plugs and they are all black. I'm also getting a good amount of white smoke which is I'm assuming unburned fuel. It starts up and idles ok but rough. What do you think I ruined? I'm workin on it now tryin' anything to smooth it out. 2:30 pm. pacific time.

what did you do about the fouled plugs? at the very least, you need to clean them up

Please tell me this ain't a new engine/cam breakin. I'd check the wires being especially carefull with #5 & #7. Clean the plugs/check reluctor gap/set initial. White smoke is either ALOT of condensation or a coolant leak.

Problem solved. I guess when it popped it created a leak with the gasket under the carb. I replaced and the thing is bitchen again. i always look to deep into this stuff. The answer is usually in front of your nose and pretty cheap. Thanks Vinnie. Say hi to Marcelus.

Nope. Engine was broken in a the speed shop down the street. funny thing when I cracked open the dist. the metal ring with the fins (reluctor?)was totally rusted up. Cleaning that helped as well. Thanks for the note. TT
