I installed a TF-2 shift kit. This kit suggests to grind the throttle valve. In my understanding this lets the lever down at the trans sweep a greater angle than stock.
On stock engine/trans combo the travel of the lever at the trans and of the rod at the carb are matched. They move the same amount from idle to WOT. When the travel of the trans lever is enlarged by grinding the valve, how should I compensate? Should I adjust the upper rod for WOT or for idle? Or should I modify my linkage so the swept ways are the same again (bigger than stock)? I.E. drill holes on a smaller radius in the bellcranks or such.
Problem with my car is, I adjusted for WOT. Those WOT shift points are ok, but at small throttle openings the upshifts are late and very harsh. Closed throttle upshifts occur at around 20mph (1-2) and 30mph (2-3). Haven't tried with disconnected linkage yet, that would be my next try.
Car is 70 Challenger R/T 440 with 3.23 gears, if that matters.
Thanks
