I picked up another 2001 2500 shortbed ext cab 6-speed HO truck after my last one got totalled, but I really wanted an '06 Mega cab with a 6-speed....I get +17mpg and it tows pretty well. How do you guys think this one would compare on mileage and towing and just plain old around town manners? http://buffalo.craigslist.org/ctd/3700825216.html

I had a late 05 6sp and I can tell you it got better mileage in town than it did on the interstate because of the way the trans is geared. you will notice more power with the 06 for sure.

Mine is turned up a little. Its got a programmer, straight pipe and air filter done to it. Nothing fancy, but it tows with more power than my last one, but I swear they removed a leaf spring because it drops a lot further when I hitch up...Rides nice though...

Really my 04 doesn't seem to have much more back seat room than the 01 had..
that change netted a whopping 4" over your 01. The reason I still own my 01.

I have an 01 and I have used my friends 05 a few times. The 05 rides and drives better, looks better inside and so on. However for me, the extra cost for the truck and parts didn't add up to go newer. I drive my truck daily and tow a lot, but I couldn't see selling it and spending another 5k plus to do what mine does. As far as power, injectors, tuner and exhaust... it's way faster than a stock common rail now and still cost a lot less
