so butyl it is, are those the correct clips for both front & rear windows as well & do the butyl strips usually come with the rubber standoff blocks ?
Good to know I was wrong on the 2 gaskets thing - do 70 & earlier b body's use a gasket vs. butyl? Maybe thats the confusion.....
thanks for the responses!
Yep those look like the corrct trim clips. Front and rear are the same. No, Butyl does not come with the spacer blocks. 70 and older have the gasket.

thanks Mark - hey a question for you, that dual exhaust hanger bracket plate I got from you has hump in it, not flat - is the flat one an E body deal only & B has the hump in it?
Thx. Evan
That must be so. The one I sent you was off of a 71 or 2 B.

We have a 70 charger and 71 RR to do the windows eventually. The one thing we need is the spacers for each. I know the 70 uses them on the rear, does the 71 use spacers for front and rear? Can they be purchased or easily reproduced? Does anyone have the dimensions.? Thanks, Joe

I have a little experience with 71 E body. If I'm not mistaken my clips were different from front to back windows. Back in 71 they used the butyle tape, which is like a adhesive. Now they use urethane adhesive on new cars which is stronger because the glass is part of the structure of the car, I was told by the glass guy who installed my glass with urethane. He did it back in 2006 and has held up well with no problems that I'm aware of. I was told the urethane was better than the old tape stuff?

Urethane will work fine. But if you are thinking about doing it yourself the butyl tape is easier -it's not as messy if you are not proficient with a urethane gun, plus it's more difficult get the right thickness with the urethane (you have to get the bead right and also not over-squash it down Actually with the tape you are supposed to use a sealant around the edge anyway to ensure it is watertight (at least the Challenger is supposed to be that way so I assume same applies in your case.)
Anyway - I plan to use the tape.
I understand the primer your suppose to use is a trade only type of product too, I was told.
The guy who did mine was in the car restoration business too he told me and he had a definite skill with the urethane gun.

We use the tape then fill around the perimeter with urethane calk like 3M's window weld...Seals the window in but will allow a little flex if needed...Ever try to get a window out when they used urethane only ??? Very tough if not impossible without damage and to be honest our old cars have alot of flex compared to the new cars...The original factory butyl tape had a cloth/mesh type backer to the inside so the trim{or you and your cleaning rag} would'nt stick fast...I've never run across this type in the aftermarket yet...

heres a 3M product of Butyl tape with blocks, it doesn't state the block size, it'd be good to know what the OE block size was. Even if you couldn't buy blocks & presume you could make some out of hard rubber spacers. I'm guessing they're just stand off blocks for the glass from the window frame, that way the glass can''t slip down & bang into the body & crack. Anyone know the size of those blocks? here's the 3M stuff... http://www.butyltape.org/3m-08612-window-weld-38-x-15-round-ribbon-sealer-kit/
