I Have a 489 case center section open rear.. can it be rebuilt with a sure grip unit? and will it work in a housing axels and all that had a 741 case??

and what do the 489s usually come from?

here are some number from the ring gear 207011-3.23 MS 291 7-19-73
so i guess they are 3.23 gears built in 73

Yes and yes. Mid year 69 And later the 489 was the 8.75 pig.

ok ty, ummmm what sure grip unit? can i use anything, or does it have to be a 489? and what types are best? and it will fit ok in a open pig housing and 741 rear housing

you can use any case # suregrip in any # case, You just have to use the correct side carrier bearings for the case you are putting it in.The gears you can not interchange.
