With stock steel wheels, can you use 9/16 or 5/8 studs? Will it increase the stength, or will the size of the tapered hole that the nut fits into limit the strength anyway?

Thanks, Joel

I cant say for fact but myself I wouldnt bore them
out to fit a larger stud... plus if you did you would
need to bore out the axles... they are pretty stout
to bore out....... JMO

Thanks Mr. P. The thing is, I am going to be ordering a set of axles. If I am going to upgrade the studs, now is the time...

How fast do you plan on going? A good set of 1/2" studs are pretty stout!

3000 lb car, eventually plan to get it into the 9's with a manual trans.

I hate breaking stuff, I'd rather build it stout to begin with.

I just did the same thing with a set of american racing torque thrusts and they are super tight with the 5/8 stud at 4-1/2 bolt pattern. Main problem is the nut for the 5/8 studs. its a flange nut with an o.d. of 1.2900 and the hole in the wheel is only 1.200. im making my own nuts and spacers so it wasn't a big deal but something to think about
