My uncle bought a new Dart Sport back in 74. He traded it for a new Magnum in 78. Here's a picture of it when it was new.

The picture was taken infront of my grandparents house. That's where all the kids took pictures of their cars. I've got a picture of my Challenger in the same spot.

The Dart had a 318, auto on the floor, black interior and fold down back seat. After he saw how my Challenger turned out, he wished he had his Dart Sport back. I didn't know how serious he was but I kept my eyes open for one. I found one listed on Moparts that was only a little over an hour away so we went to look at it last weekend. He ended up buying it today.

This car has 13,000 miles, a 318 with A/C, column shift auto, blue interior and standard back seat. It has a cheaper repaint on it right now but the stripes look original. The engine was resprayed too so you can't use it as a reference. Hopefully I'll be able to go check it out in depth in the next 6-8 weeks. I'll look for a build sheet too. For now here are some pics my uncle took.

nice find! aside from the lack of belt mouldings, it could be the same car.

What plans does he have for it? Looks like a great starting point for him.

Right now he just wants something he can jump in and drive on a Sunday afternoon. This car is perfect for that. It drives great.

I'm going to go through the brakes and make sure he doesn't have to worry about anything. The trim at the top of the doors is cracked. I might try and locate some new pieces that are in better shape. It could also use some new tail light bezels but I doubt he wants to spend that much right now.

He's not worried about numbers or anything like that. He just wants to enjoy a car like the one he originally bought.

Great looking car! I would do exactly the same thing with it. It's too nice to hot rod by the looks of it.

...nice, very nice! Great to grab a good memory from the past. Color combo is easy on the eyes... good find.

It looks like he had some fun driving the car this weekend. He gave his stepson and daughter-in-law a ride in it yesterday.

He noticed a small coolant leak coming from the lower rad hose. He tightened up the lower clamp but noticed there was nothing on the upper side. My guess is that the factory spring clamp broke and fell off. He's lucky the hose didn't blow off.

Did the Dart Sports use two different side mirrors like the 70 Challengers did? According to Hamtramck-Historical, if the car had dual mirrors, they would have been the racing style. This car has the standard mirrors but the PS is a dual post style. Was this added or is this factory? I'm very green on the A-bodies. I'm ready to learn.

There should be a code on the fender tag if it had optional mirrors. My guess would be a dealer/ owner installed mirror. They have pretty crappy visibility without one.

No fender tag. Hopefully there is a build sheet under the seat. I don't have a clear picture of the PS mirror but from what I see, it looks like the one listed on BE&A's website. BE&A doesn't list an application for that mirror though.

My uncle and I had planned on going to the 4th Street Cruise today but it was pouring down rain most of the day. I wanted to get a closer look at the Dart so I went for a little drive. I ended up having a nice day. The weather cleared up enough so we could drive around my home town for awhile. A lot has changed in the 12 years since I've been gone. We also stopped by a friends shop and had a look at his 70 Super Bee.

Here are some more pictures of the Dart. This is the PS mirror that's on the car. This must have been an add on.

Someone thought it would be better to add a little color back to the engine. Some of the wiring and brackets have blue overspray on them. I wish they would have left it alone. Still, it's a fairly clean engine comp.

The trunk mat is toast but the rest of the trunk is in good shape.

The interior is in pretty good shape. There are some cracked plastic pieces that we will be looking to replace but the seats look new.

He's put over 500 miles on it already.

Here's what I was excited about.

Unfortunately, just like my Challenger, this sheet is NOT for this car. I don't know much about A-bodies but the VIN on the sheet starts with VL...not LL. Is the sheet for a Duster?

That mirror looks like it's off a 65 Fury.

BE&A lists it as an A&B body mirror but doesn't give any other details. Even though the car has only 13,000 miles on it, a lot can happen in 40 years.

Glad their ok, I hope that girls insureance will make it right and pay for an appropriate replacement.

If all the blue interior parts are nice I'd save it ALL. Color keyed interior in nice shape can be difficult to find. Someone will need it

Wow....sorry to hear that the Dart Sport is a loss. That car was beautiful! I'm glad your Aunt and Uncle are ok though. I also hope your son is doing better as well...we are all pulling for him!!
