Last summer I bought some front fender/engine comp splash shields from Detroit Muscle Technologies for my January '68 Charger and last week I finally got around to putting them on. The drivers side didn't fit right so I emailed Jim and asked about it. He said I might have gotten the wrong one so he sent a second shield. It turned out to be exactly the same so I just redrilled the mounting holes and added one hole that was missing to get it to fit.

By the way, this is not a complaint about DMT at all. Jim offered to refund my money and I told him no because I'm not that worried about it but I am curious about what's going on. Have any of you guys ever had fitment problems with these? No one at any of the body shops I've been to have ever noticed anything out of whack, and I haven't either, as in the iinner fender being replaced or redrilled. Jim said he's sold about 300 sets without any issues so mine's apparently a quirky one. It fits now after modifying it so I don't really care too much other than I'd like to know what the deal is. FYI, Like I said I've got no beef at all with DMT over this. I think their products and service are both top notch and I wish all my dealings with various vendors were as good as they are with them.

Production changes and plant differences I would have to say. I'll assume you didn't save the old shield ?

If it really bugs you see if Jim can send you a shield with none of the holes prepunched and make your own holes .

It really doesn't bother me much. I was just wondering if there was another example of this oddity out there. A lot of it is going to get covered with undercoating before too long anyway.

Trash talking me

That IS weird though.

I had also thought of a shield without the holes. If you'd like one shoot me your address again via email.

Maybe the drilling jig at the factory got shifted that day after the guy came back from his 4-beer lunch in the parking lot.

I suppose if he was good at it, he'd be "shift-aced"?
