If the motor is going to see a bunch of street time , I'd prefer to break it in with a load , cycling both acceleration and deceleration. You can run it in and check for leaks etc. But not much more.
I probably should've mentioned that I'm really only breaking in a cam using softer valve springs for break in and don't want to do all the labor over my fender. Figured it would be the same as breaking it in with the car in park. No?

It's been done before, it's similar to the weight that bolts between the flywheel and the crank. I hope your engine isn't on the old traditional engine stand. There's a video online of a guy starting a big cadillac engine on the typical 3-roller stand. when he flips the throttle a couple of times I'm afraid that engine is just going to fall over! R.

so you will be breaking in the cam this way - you will not be breaking in the rings / cylinders that way.
I'd suggest if you are going to do it this way to not run it long after you break in the cam and swap the springs - Thats the goal right?
You need it in a car or on a dyno to seat everything else under a load.
Correct. Everything else is broke in from multiple seasons ago. I think I'll try it rather than spend a bunch on a 360 flywheel that I'd probably never use again. And yes it is on a run stand complete with fuel system, radiator and gauge panel. And of course a sweet push start button!
