At the last race in October I broke the 9 in. center section in my D-50. That night I ran my quickest E.T. and 60 ft. so far. I run 1/8 mile and it was a 1.34 60 ft. ,6.34 @ 108 mph. I had another center section with a mini spool and 3.50 gears so I put them in for now.
How much do you think it will slow it down. I had 5.14 gears last year.
It is a Indy 360-2 headed pump gas 394 c.i. with mufflers and Drag radials. It weights 2950 lbs with me in it. I will be going to T&T tomorrow.I will let you now what it runs.

How did it feel out on the street ?

That motor is all about low end TQ I think it had to much gear before.

3.50 is not the answer but may not hurt as bad as you would think.

I would like to see 4.5ish gear in it.

Did you put the 1050 on?

i'll guess and say no where near that much maybe .2 or close if that much. I had a 69RR years ago and went from a 391 all the way up to a 513 and it didn't change hardly anything

what was the gear raito before.. and what is the stroke. but I would say you will lose less than a tenth you might add 2or3 degrees of timing

I have not put the 1050 on it yet. I have not bought a fuel pump yet. Plus I do not want to change more than one thing at a time. I wanted to see what it runs with the gear change. When I had the 360/380 HP crate motor in it I did the same gear change. It had run a best of 7.46 with the 5.14 and ran a 7.60 with the 3.50 gears. I had a 1.53 60ft. with the 5.14's and 1.67 with the 3.50 gears. So maybe it will run some 6.50's in 2nd gear.

Well if you had other issues maybe the lower rpm will
help but if all was good then I'll stick to my guess

I think you will go faster with a 4.30 or 4.56 than you did with 5.13. with my car I have tried 4.10. 4.56.and 5.00 and seen very little change in the 1/8 mile but 3.50 is pretty flat. I still thank about a tenth.

One other thing... whats your conv stall, if its
high enough it will help you out some to help cover
up the gear... to a point

8 in. PTC flashes 5200 - 5500 it seems to be looser with the higher gears. I was shifting at 6800 and crossing the finish line about 6800 with the 5.14's. I am not sure where to shift at tomorrow, I am sure I will go through in 2nd gear. I have another center section that is borrowed that has 4.56 gear in it. I might try in a couple of weeks. I am afraid I will break the cap in it too.

Is your 8 3/4 back braced.. also if you put load bolts
in the back, that really helps the stock caps

The 9in. is not back braced and it has a 727 in it. I am leaving now to go and see what it will do.

Just got back from T&T and the 3.50 gears did not slow it down that much. The best pass today was 1.42 60ft. 6.46 @ 107.60 crossing the finish line in 2nd gear.

Makes sense to me. You have more than enough stall, too much gear before, and the 2.45 low. Had it been with a glide and a tight converter, you would still be waiting to cross the finish line
