Hey guys...
Are ALL truck Dana 60 rear axles built with floating axles? I parted a 74 Camper 9000 that had one. My 75 W200 does as well. I was going to sell the axle from the 74 truck, but maybe I should hang onto it if they have the same guts inside.
Thanks, Greg

SAVE IT! Most likey it is the better housing then the W200.

Same guts. But the camper 9000 should be a true 60HD housing which you can upgrade to 1.5" 35 spline shafts without having to bore the spindles like most truck dana 60 housings.(Stock is 30 spline 1.3")

The housing will have extra webbing on the center...however there are two different versions of the HD housing...one I call a semi-HD....it has the extra ribbing on the center section but will not fit the 35 spline shafts....look for a round 2" or so boss on the top of the center section...if you find this it will not fit the 35 spline shafts in my experience.

I will try to snap some pics tomorrow.

Most truck Dana 60s are full floating. International had a semi-floating Dana 60 and there is currently a Dana 60 listed on Des Moines craigslist that says it came out of a 79 1/2 ton Ford. I can't verify that it is a 60 but looks like it. It is disassembled but appears to be a semi-floating axle. It could also be an IH axle that was installed in a Ford.

I'm pretty sure all Dana 60s in Dodge trucks were full-floating.

I have gotten a 60 out of a ford that had car type axles, same spline as a car too. Just the bearing ends were ford. Narrowed it anyways.

I just stripped down the housing to make it easier to move. It had the MEGA super duper drums on it. The shoes may be 2 7/8" or wider. I was amazed at how skinny the axle shafts are for such an otherwise beefy axle setup. The backing plates were retained by 4 bolts. The diff was always quiet, so I may keep the axle around for a future upgrade for the truck... something like a limited slip differential for any potential 4 wheeling fun.
