Who is recommended for restoring plastic grille parts? I would like to have the plastic grille inserts from my 68 Barracuda restored to their original sport special package appearance of black with chrome vertical fins.

Russ

You could paint them yourself black and dull silver with the appropriate masking. Cleaning them up with lightly very low pressure setting fine glass beading can work.

But if you need the chrome redone on the verticle fins I think you should call and talk to GCAR.

IIRC, the chrome was done somehow just on the forward facing tips of the vertical slats. I've seen a close up picture but it was years ago. I have a feeling to redo them they are going to have to chrome the whole piece and mask accordingly.

Your car is coded the Sport/Spring Special package with maroon sticker between the upper and lower trunk molding??

Thank you for responding and the advice. It may come down to re-doing them myself. Yes, my car is decoded as the spring special or sport special package (depending on who does the decoding). It had the maroon reflective tape between the taillights.

Wow, I had no idea such a package existed on '68 Barracudas; any pics of the grilles & tail?

I don't have pictures right now. The sport special or spring special package was offered in the spring of 1968 to help boost sales. These Barracudas were offered with vinyl top, chrome grille, wheel lip molding, wide sill molding (rocker panel spears and gills), rear deck maroon reflective tape, wood grain steering wheel, accent stripes, console, D70x14 tires and deluxe wheel covers. There is a nice video of a 68 Barracuda with this package on you tube. I can't figure out how to include it in this post. It can be found by doing a search for "68 Barracuda sport special package". Perhaps someone more computer literate than me can post it.

Here's some picture of a Barracuda Sport Special Package code 368 on a notchback. On a fastback or convertible the code was 361.

This car has been restored. But I get the feel and when I talked to the guy, it was a really nice car to start with.

So I don't know if these grille inserts have been rechromed and/or repainted. They look almost too good to be 100% original.

I don't know if this is original, but it looks like the rest of the grille insert is all painted black. On regular grilles the vertical slat were silver and surfaces that point forward in the background are painted black. Again, this car is restored, so this may not be correct.

Build sheet for above car. But whats odd is that under special packages is list 358 which is front shoulder belts.

Maybe 368 is listed under the registration card??

Sorry I don't have a picture of the fender tag. I wonder if 368 shows up on the fender tag?

Thanks for posting all the pictures and documents. My car is the same color (RR1) According to my fender tag decde, E8 designates Sport Special Package. Also, most options that are part of this package are listed separately on the fender tag.

Do you know GCAR's website, I can't seem to find them.

Do you have the build sheet for your car?

My car is also RR1 with the same burgandy and white interior and white top and rocker/spear molding as this car. It has everything you got with the Sport group except the chrome grille inserts and maroon trunk tape. But does not spec for E8. IIRC, it specs for 353 Sport Group.

My tag

No Build sheet. I searched for it in all the places they are typically found. The only place left to look is inside the seats. They are going to be recovered soon. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky. My car has the RR1 paint code and H6V interior (white and maroon) with a Black vinyl top (Y6)
