Hello,
The 69 Roadrunner I bought a month or so ago is set up with a mopar electric ignition, orange box, and the big square type accel super coil and no Ballast resistor. No I have been out of the mopar game a few years but I remember needing the resistor still with the stock type coil when I converted my first Roadrunner to electric ignition.
I did a search and got some conflicting info whether I need it or not with the Accel coil, I havent really driven the car more than around the block but it runs well, I just don't want to burn my coil up and be stranded somewhere, probably the first time I take my wife for a spin, LOL. Anyone advise me if I'm ok or I need to dig into the harness and get a resistor. No Idea how long its been like this.

Its been probally 30 years since I ran one but IIRC it had a resistor.Accel should have it on their site.Rocky

I still run the old accel super coil on my 63 with the MP orange box. I believe my ballast is a .75 as its been on the cars for years. Runs in the 10's with it and no ign problems at all. If I get out to the garage today I will double check the ohms. I remember years ago when you bought the super coil it came with a .25 ohm ballast that you were supposed to add in series with the stock ballast. But when I put this together years ago I just used the one ballast which I believe is .75 ohms. Ron

You can see part of the super coil past the dist as I mounted it on the fenderwell. Ron

I ran that same setup 30 years ago on a street 440 with no issues & come to find out in later years that Accel wants you to use a .8 ohm ballast. You have alot of gray area to work with on ballast/coil combo's from what is recommended. With the right # of pumps on the thermoquad in the summertime it would start intantly the same as my dd 318 does now with OE black ECU/.25 MP race ballast/black FBO coil (not his newer full 12V coil)/1406 eddy even in the dead of winter

Hmm, sounds like I should dig into the wiring harness and put a resistor back in. Thanks guys!

Or keep it as is & kick a$$ with it & keep a spare supercoil (they're cheap used) & ECU in the trunk & if you're running an orange box I would for sure keep a spare ECU (not an orange one but a parts house 4 pin Mopar ECU & they're cheap/dependable) with you

I have been testing several coils, resistors and ignition boxes on my dyno, and for the real world say run a resistor.
The highest ohm resistor I have on hand is 1.75 ohms. With a Super coil,MP distributor and MP orange or chrome box,the resistor lost only 5 peak horsepower. The resistor did smooth out the engine resulting in a smoother graph. I think the resistor helps dampen voltage spikes and that is what is hard on electronic components .
Most street cars with an engine in this range( 375 hp and 415 tq) wont show any seat of the pants difference . I would take the peace of mind instead.

When I first purchased my Duster a few years ago,
it had an Accel big yellow coil on the firewall with a ballast resistor, and factory electronic ignition. I simply changed out the yellow
coil for a factory black unit...the car ran fine
with the Accel, just wanted a cleaner look under
the hood. Use a resistor.

Thanks again for the info, I have a resistor ordered, going to find a spare coil/box too as I don't know how long it has been running with out one just in case
