Mine didn't fit either (AMD metal), but I fixed it before paint. If you already have painted your car you might have to grind down the edges (backside / unseen) of the flip top to make it fit.

the quarter is still in the E coat that AMD put on and the ring the flip top sits on isnt as deep as the original and also for lack of a better term the stamping of where the cap sits is lazy, i will take pictures tomorrow so everyone can see, the lines of new metal arent as sharp as original which was expected but i wasnt expecting the gas cap area to be this bad

....This was the way both my Challengers were 20 years ago when we replaced quarter panels. The area for the cap always seems to be about 1/4" too shallow and the radius of the stamping is not sharp enough. Like said....at that time we just bevelled the mounting ears for the flip top so it would conform to the inner radius of the panel. Not proper by any means, but I have had NO ONE ever point this out on either car, so I musta done an "Acceptable" job!!!
All that aside though, you would think that after 20-30 years of producing these parts that SOMEONE would get it right.

We had the same issue and had to find a donor part as when we got our chally, the crappy quarters were already on the car. Even the flat stock gas cap stuck out from the body with the crappy repro due to the almost 45* stamping vs the sharper correct form. Luckily, we found at a swap meet where someone had saved the area around the fuel door and had to graft it into the repro quarter panel. Fits perfectly now!

I had the same issue 10 years ago, and found out after the car was painted...
I bought a cut-out of the correct opening from a parts car, cut out the crappy stamping on the re-pop, and bolted in the correct piece to the inside of the 1/4 panel, inside the trunk. Seemed like the best solution at the time, and it works.
I bought the 1/4 from Sherman. I called them and gave them an earful. They wound up refunding me 125.00. But of course they claimed they had not previously heard of that problem. Sure dudes, WHATEVER!!

Put AMD on my car- found out after I had painted it. Beveled the edges of a repop gas cap to try it. seems to fit good.!
