Can a lockup transmission (727,904, 500, 518) be converted to a non lockup? What would need changed?

You can leave all the trans components intact, block the stroke of the lockup valve and remove the clutch from the converter. This may be an easier solution in some instances.
That certainly would be easier , especially if you were buying an aftermarket convertor .

If the goal is to simply eliminate the lockup in a 727 or 904, blocking the lockup valve is the simplest solution. For the 500 and 518 just don't hook up the wire.
If one wants to use an aftermarket non-lockup converter it will have a different input shaft spline so the non-lockup parts will have to be swapped in.
