Yes there is a tooth difference. The front axle is made by Dana Spicer, the rear is chrysler. You are also dealing with 2 different diameter ring and pinions..
I am truckless..

Not if it was a 3/4 ton. Than its Dana front and rear unless the rare 8 lug 9.25 is in it. But since his ratio is 3.2 its a 1/2 ton But yes they are All off a bit on ratios I believe in all the big 3. I would assume D60 front and rear would be the same or possibly slight difference also. You buying new or want a stock used setup? I probably have Stock if interested

Not everyone can afford $175plus for new on top of new parts to install or if he pays somebody to install them. Its $500-1000 to have a rear end set up. I bought a 89 Shortbed from a coworker and when he owned it the rear end went out. He paid $650 for a Used rear and to have it installed. I thought he was nuts because hes not dumb when it comes to wrenching Junkyard only charges$100-150 for a complete rear. If you Have the funds available Id get new if not get what you can afford.

Ive always herd that the 4wds had a 9.25 only but I have a 4wd with a 8.25. Ill double check ratio but I think it was 3.5.
Seems they are hit & miss. I've seen BB trucks and RC's that have 8 3/8 rears. My guess is they used what was available. I would imagine tow package would for sure get a 9.25 but ya never know what Ma does when moneys tight.

If he can't set the rear axle up himself, he is still paying someone to set it up, weather the replacement gears are new or used. If i have to pay someone to set up the gears in an axle, I'm putting new gears in there. If he can set it up himself, the used gears may make sense.
Personally, I would replace the entire axle. If the ring & pinion are broke or wore out, all that metal from the gears has been floating around along with the gear lube and has passed through the bearings. Unless your renewing everything, I wouldn't take the chance the bearings are not going to crap out next, in a short time. Gene
