The wire is abot 10" long. It just unplugs at the other end, behind the ashtray if I recall correctly.
This is correct. The other end of that pink-ish wire is a bullet connector which should be plugged in to the red distribution block in the harness. It may be accessible behind the ashtray receiver or you may have to pull the dash speaker to get to it from the top.
If you contort yourself under the dash with a flash light, you may be able to squeeze you hands behind the ductwork to get at it.

Once you remove the bulb, you'll find the terminal is hold on socket with a tab or presured in ( Can't recall exactly Long time I did it ). Easy to remove HOWEVER it is posible to damage the socket too due its age. Is true the better bet is try to find the source and remove all the wire, but if you can not, try removing the bulb then the terminal.
if you remove the terminal and batt is still on car, disconect the batt OR isolate the terminal, since is constant hot

- 70_roadrunner - cjskotni - NachoRT74 Thanks guys this really helps. I'm gutting the whole under dash and do not want to damage the harness. I mean it appears that the harness is all there with not cuts, splices, burns absolutely mint. So any defects on my mistakes would be devastaing. I'll follow your advices and trace down the bullet connector or if I can't get to that I'll try removing the bulb then the wire in the socket. Do they repro under dash harnesses for 3rd gen Chargers? I know that they do 2nd gens for around #500.00. I might have a gem here. Thanks again to all who replied.

Yes, take the bulb out first and then the spade connector will be able to slide/pop out. As Nacho said, disconnect the battery so if the spade connector (hot) does come in contact with the dash frame you don't have a pyrotechnic show inside you car.

Yes, they do. This is what I did with my 73 Charger and the harness was spectacular! Works very well and just like the original. However, that little harness+socket you are dealing with will NOT come with the main dash harness. The wire you are dealing with plugs into the main harness on the red distribution block.

Sample of the distribution block, has a red wire. the blue bulb on the yellow wire going to it, not the heater switch
