....or anyone that may be able to help. I'm restoring my 70 Barracuda Gran Coupe and would like to know in which direction the rocker panel moldings should be mounted. Fins turned down or up. I have no reference to go by. Any help would be appreciated.
Thx in advance

I looked at the first photo last night but couldn't get a close enough view.

That was my guess as it makes the most sense they would be less likely to trap dirt, mud etc. if installed down however, I would rather risk sounding stupid than installing them incorrectly and removing all doubt.

Thx a bunch.

Any chance that your original screw holes are still there?

Unfortunately my painter filled in the clip holes during body work and paint. I did mark each piece as either left or right side.

I took hundreds of photos during disassembly but for some reason the rocker trim removal wasn't documented.

Never can take too many photo's!

Are these standard on all gran coupes? My car didn't have them when I got it, but it had also been through 2 color changes in its life

From what I know about the moldings they were placed on the Gran Coupes. The 70's were styled differently than the 71's.

Well, for what it is worth. I have a gran coupe for sale here and the fins point up. Here is a pic. Who knows if they have ever been off. Of course mine has the rare "factory" leopard spot headliner as well. It had one of those 6" steering wheels too. Ha!

Interesting.........

Tony or Scott if you guys are on any comments? Any of the pics I've looked at aren't clear enough to decipher.
Thx

I'd have to agree..Fins up, as it looks pretty obvious by the slight angle on the edge of the rocker's edge to mate with the radius of the front fender wheel arch...Should be an angled leading edge to match the front wheel fender wheel opening arch, and straight rear edge to the trailing molding edge at the rear wheel opening arch..

but, if you flip them over, and side to side... those angles line up again...

Uhh....No...

Only one end has an angled end, the other end should be "squared"

I looked today at my car. The right side is what I posted yesterday. That side of the car has had a 1/4 installed long ago. It seams to be installed to low. They put two extra screws in the middle. The other side appears to be original and installed slightly higher. The back is defiantly more square than the front. I don't see how you could get them on the opposite side and have them look right. PM me if you need some more pics.

Hey Mark

PM sent.

Just a point of interest. The Gran Coupe convertible that I have was sold new at the Waxahachie, TX dealership back in the day. According to Google Earth that is not that far from Abilene. It found it's way up to Chandler and then Fountain Hills (Phoenix), AZ where I aquired it a couple of years ago.

Thx
