Hello
I bought a car with a 472 in it and it came with the receipt. Guy bought it in january 2008. If the 472 used the world block with the freeze plug under it, this is not one of them. Is there any tag or markings I could find to know production or if its a canada motor? Rear main leaking good. doesnt seem to use oil and after putting a pcv on it, not drooling down breathers. Any fix for the rear main?
Thanks bunches! Great site

There should be a serial number on the ID pad , but if it's not a world block then it is probably a Cummins recon built , canada , motor , PM member zippy with the serial number , he works for MP tech , and he should be able to tell you when it was built. Ifit is a Cummins Recon engine they had a number of issues that needed to be adddressed , the heads are a sore spot , retainers too small for the springs , valves with too short a margin, valve guide clearance all over the place.

I'll have to look at the crank from my engine , if it still has a knurl then the fix is a ROPE SEAL ...

Thanks for the info. I will look at little closer at the pad and see if I can find any numbers other than the 472. I had read enough that I think it wouldnt hurt to be checked out and fix the seal. The car has 5000 miles and not sure if that was when the motor was put it. Does run pretty good.

pull a valve cover and check the spring fit at the retainer on the closed valves , if you can move the spring side to side under the retainer then it's definitely a Cummins Recon engine and you should address the heads ...
