My guess is you did not get both wires from the ignition switch connected to the coil power wire. Check to if there is +12v to the coil during cranking. Most of the older ignition switches had two separate wires, one bypasses the coil for full voltage during cranking, the other supplied power through the ballast for run.

The two terminals on the back of the switch can be connected together, or the two wires from the ballast can be connected.

what ignition system are you using?

to eliminate the voltage regulator, you need to install a 1-wire alternator, or move the existing V.R. inside the car.

Eliminating the ballast resistor is easy, as long as you are not using the original points. An MSD box or even a Petronix's will allow you to remove the ballast.

You still need at least one wire to the alternator, the oil pressure and water temp sending unit wires, as well as the coil power and ground wires.
