I am looking at coil overs for my HemiDenny K-Member on the front of 72 Dart. The car is primarily a street car. My question is, would a street car really max out a twin tubes potential? Would it benefit from monotube shocks much? Would I pretty much not see a difference on a street car?

I would say, it depends. While there is no debating that a mono-tube allows greater degree of precision control and can show increased performance as a result, the reality is if you have a street car that you are building as a cruiser, the twin tubes can do the vast majority of the job you want at a lower price.

With what you've already done, why bother with cheap shocks?

What is the setup on the suspension already?

Now I see some of your specs on the Dart but you made them in some crazy yellow color and its hard to read on my screen.

With a good rear leaf spring set up like you already have why worry about cheap shocks?

I already have Hotchkis rear leafs with a Minitub, subframe connectors, 11" 4 wheel disc brakes that are drilled and slotted, torsion bars removed with a Hemidenny made K-Frame with manual rack and pinion steering.

If its a budgetary issue I would install the cheaper shocks if it was keeping you from getting the car on the road. Since shocks are easily changed out when cash becomes available and would better fit the springs you installed out back.

Remember the suspension is a complete package kind of application where the tires, springs, shocks alignment all work together as a system. Of course matching all these components can be tricky without buying a complete system from a manufacturer.

The price is not that of a big deal.
I can get the Twintube coilovers for around $350-450 pair. And I can get the Monotube coilovers for $550 pair.
My main concern is that I read that twin tubes are better for street when it comes to their manners (not as stiff). But also read that montubes are a better shock over all. I just figured I would get some advice from those real world people that have used them. I am just looking for a good ride.

who you buying shocks from? I'd call the mfgr and ask what they think. i've talked to afco and tokico on the phone a few times and they are very helpful.

Buying either Ridetech's for the Monotubes. Either Aldan Eagles or QA1's for twin tubes.

how about inverted monotube?

I know there are some very high quality twin tube designs out on the market and a great number of them even proliferate the racing scene. On dirt tracks and in heavy street stock style racing, twin tubes may even be a preferred set up because of their ability to absorb damage. I would much rather have a high quality twin tube then a unknown mono-tube, not to say Ridetech is an unknown as they seem very active in street performance handling.

I run the 26 way adjustable monotube Ridetech shock. Developed in conjunction with fox. So kind of a no brainer. I believe they are $500 a piece though, not 100% sure as they gave these to me as they sponsor the car.

By far one of the best mods to the car.

No, no and no. Driving around on the street nobody could tell if the shocks were mono or twin tube by the way the car felt. If you want benefits get adjustible shocks so you can tune them to your spring rates and car weight. You'll probably find most adjustible shocks are mono tube however.
