Ok I got a quick wheel question. I just got down lowing my 71 satellite about 2" in the front 3" in the rear. I'm looking at a set of wheels that are 17x8 and have 4.75 backspacing. If I put 245/40 tire on them. Would they fit, if any buddy has and idea please post thank you.

I can comment on the rears - i have 17x9 5" offset on my 71 runner and they fit no problem - have a inch to spare between spring and backside of rim and 1 1/4" from front of rim to inner lip. I'm building all new front suspension right now so I can't comment on the fronts fitting

Agree the rears will likely work. I believe the backspace may be a bit too much for the front though. It may tend to rub the frame rail. I would guess 4 1/4" would be ideal for the front but there is no way to know for sure without test fit (on both sides). It can be a controversial topic but a small spacer with longer studs may fix it up. If you go that route, pick a spacer made from forged or hot rolled stock. The cast Al type aren't very sturdy.

No. Not too much backspacing for the front. It's only 4.75. And the tires are sort of small with 245/40/17's. I think a 45 or 50 series might look a little better.

I've got some 17x8 with 5.6" backspacing with 275/40/17 tires on the front of my 68 Barracuda A-body right now with no rubber the frame rail. It's close though. Been driving around for a month on them.

No frame mods on my car. But on my 68 Barracuda the front fender is bent back. But remember that is just an A-body that had wheel opening for narrow D-70-14 tires originally.

PHJ426 has 16x8 with 4.5 backspacing at 255/50ZR16 tires with 26.1" overall diameter on his 72 Road Runner. Would be interesting to get pictures of the top/front fender and f/r frame clearance on his car.

The frame clearance will be the same as any E-body or 67-70 B-body too since they share the same suspension and front frame.

Ill have to snap some pics of the front of the fender with the tire turned full lock and frame clearance on the backside of the tire to the frame.

The 255/50 tire is 10" wide and 26.1 tall like was said. I have not turned the front bars down yet and they are set at the same position as they were with the 245/60R15 fromt tires.

The back of the car came down probably 6" fron the old super stock springs to the xhd leafs with the lower front mounts.
