i thought i would post some pics of my progress, i started swapping out my amc powerplant for a 440 in 2010, it took me a couple of years to gather up all my mopar buddies leftover parts, ended up with a really good combo

67 440 block, 030 lightweight forged pistons, steel rods and crank, ultradyne 582 lift solid cam, eddy performer rpm alum heads that have some work done on em, procomp roller rocker setup, 3500 converter, 727,
car has had a 9in in it for ten years, 4.11 gears,

it was a lil tricky to get it to fit but not too bad,

Very cool project! It looks like the 440RB fit in your engine compartment pretty nicely. The 400B in our '74 Javelin actually looks a little tighter between the shock towers than your 440 does in your car. The factory Mopar exhaust manifolds on our Javelin are very close to the shock towers and the steering shaft.

I wonder what the difference in engine compartment width dimensions actually is between the Javelin and the Hornet, or if the difference is in the height of your RB engine and/or motor mounts?
In any case I'll post some pics of the 400 in our Javelin as soon as it's back in; right now our engine is on the stand to get freshened and hopped up.

It'd be interesting to compare notes on our AMC/big block Mopar hybrids as they come together!

close isnt even the word for it...lol... ill post some closer pics of the header clearance, or the lack of...

i built the mounts as low profile as i could and tried to get the engine as low as i could to try and fit it under the hood, but i had to cut the hood anyway, plus i think the hemi scoop is awesome....

Looks good! How much work were the headers?

Hornet said it, there is almost no room for headers. The center ports of our stock 400 log style manifolds on our Jav are only an inch or so from the shock towers.
I wonder if upswept HP manifolds would fit better and at least not waste as much power as the log manifolds do? Or headers with the center ports going up and over the shock towers...
I drew a crummy sketch to show what I am thinking about, maybe it will inspire someone with a good idea! We are going to swap to a manual brake master cylinder as well to give us a little more room.

Hood clearance is tight too. With the stock intake, Holley carb and a 3" air cleaner we just about touch the bottom of the hood. I'll need to get out the sawzall to install an aftermarket aluminum intake for sure.

i used b-body headers and the pass side bolted right in, had to reroute two tubes for the driver side.. also had to remove the strut rod brackets and relocated them, but well worth the work imho....
manual brakes was a must for room, plus the blower motor and heater core had to be removed as well... the prices we pay for fun huh....

Excellent! Can you show some pics of the header routing and the mods you had to do on the drivers side? What make and model B Body headers did you use?

Did you use a truck pan? Can't really tell, but the dipstick in the pan made me think truck. Looks like a cool conversion.
I had a Jeep pickup I always wanted to put a 440 in when I was a new driver. Dad wasn't having any of it...
Edit: I saw your post in the Javelin thread and see that it is a truck pan. Never mind!

Nice! Looks like you cut the front cylinder pipe on the driver's side so you could twist it a little to get it to clear the steering shaft?

From looking at the pictures, I think you AMC guys have more room with the 400/440 than I do with a 440 in my '68 Valiant!!!
